This Year's For You and Me

On the cobbled Crow Street is a new piece by one of Ireland's most innovative artists. ADW has created this piece for you and me...

Over the last couple of years, I've had the opportunity to work with ADW on a couple of projects and he's always been more than a pleasure; he's a true gent. While he always seems to live and speak in the now, it is always exciting to see him mulling over his next project. He never seems to be still for too long when it comes to the evolution of his art.

His latest piece is titled 'This Year's For Me and You' and in me it invokes memories of the Celtic Tiger and almost hints at its rebirth and return. However, I asked him to tell me a little bit about his piece and  he describes the title as coming from a line in The Pogues' masterpiece 'Fairytale in NY' which was bombarded on the airwaves as he was creating the piece at the tail end of 2015.

In his words, "It's going to be a special year to be Irish and I wanted to create a piece that both marked the centenary of the Easter rising while also reflecting Ireland in 2016, warts n'all! The line from the iconic song fit the image and my thoughts perfectly. Songs, music and lyrics play an important role in my creative process, and this piece was no exception. But of course, art is always open to interpretation and can mean different things to different people"

I definitely agree that it is an extra special year to be Irish and one where the tricolours will be as prevalent and iconic as ever and this is a great tribute from one man to the people. This year's for you and me; so shall it be.
